£9.99

Join Hazel Rankin the non-nonsense Engagement Manager as she fights to secure the future of historical properties. She invites Scottish academics to collaborate on a project that will capture the imagination of the public and bring in visitors. The feisty and controversial Dr Lauren McDonald answers that call with a project which explores the connections between ordinary people and extraordinary events. As their work gathers pace the interest from the public and the academic world grows but it seems not everyone wants to see them succeed.  When a body is discovered somewhere unexpected the project begins to unravel, and it soon becomes clear that a ghost from Hazel’s past has resurfaced with it. The women struggle to find their connection and save the project.

In 1715 widowed healer and midwife Jeannie Kellie’s place in the household of the Erskine clan chieftain is threatened by the arrival of a new mistress.  Mairead Erskine has been summoned to Alloa Tower to serve alongside her husband James who is charged with defending the family seat of power.  Loyalties are tested as their laird turns his coat and leads a rebellion to place a Stuart King back on the throne of Scotland. The shadow of war creeps ever closer and with everything to lose the women are bound together. As the tower falls the women must save themselves and face their own desperate battle to survive. Against mounting odds and very real danger difficult choices are made and one of them will pay the ultimate price.
